You don't even realise we wouldn't even have refuges without feminists.

They weren't gifted to us from on high they were set up by women's groups from scratch with money raised from the community and didn't exist at all until the 1970s.

Before that abused women were expected to just put up with it until they were killed. Indeed when the first refuges were opened there was a lot of campaigning against them from people who thought that was the natural order.

I think that younger women have no idea that their ancestresses had to fight for basic human rights.

For instance, bathrooms - women had to fight for bathrooms in order to leave the home for any length of time and participate in the public sphere. Lack of toilet access is referred to as the "urinary leash." Women all over the world are still fighting for bathrooms.

In the US, even women Kamala Harris's age would have encountered legal discrimination against women.

Yes, and I'm wondering if there is a way to pin this research as this would be good for those of us trying to convince others that women and girls really do need sex-segregated bathrooms.
