Judge:

“I accept that had it not been for the alleged victim in this case there probably wouldn’t have been an incident. The four of you then were subjected to extremely offensive transphobic and racial abuse. Had it not been for that there would have been no violent disorder. 1. However that does not excuse what you did, you went far too far in your reactions, but of course transphobic issues are particularly sensitive. It is a sign that the so-called victim realised how wrong he was by refusing to cooperate and not make any statement. I do not in any way condone your behaviour but I accept that what happened to you at the beginning of the incident was entirely wrong and people like you should not be subject to that abuse in the public domain or anywhere. You are being punished for your overreaction to someone who has escaped punishment altogether.“2

(Formatting mine)

1- know-it-all, woke judge knows for a fact these four would never have been violent in any other situation. Rigghht...

2- escaped punishment? Dude was beaten up! Victim blaming. Precedent setting?

Yeah, the judge's treatment of these thugs illustrates that instead of being marginalized, oppressed and subjected to constant discrimination and violence, TIMs are given a free pass to behave as badly as they want and then are allowed to get off scot free whilst other men feel sorry for them & offer excuses for their inexcusably violent, knee-jerk behavior.

The "extremely offensive transphobic and racial abuse" these TIMs experienced, while undoubtedly unpleasant, pales next to the sort of abuse girls and women get all the time simply for being female and having certain racial, ethnic & other physical or cultural characteristics. The insulting remarks made by the teenager to these men seems "extremely offensive" to the judge & the violent yobs the words were directed at coz they are all men who are accustomed to being top dog and are used to being able to move about the world without constantly - or ever -being accosted, harassed or insulted.

If I didn't know where this quote came from, I would have said this is satire. The judge's comment reads like a middle school level essay. One of those where kids have to write down pros and cons about subjects they know, or care, very little about.

Sometimes, I despair thinking about the quality of people in high positions.
