This is what I don’t understand about the whole “acknowledging that trans women were once men enables violence against them because the MEN who attack them are afraid that because they’re attracted to them it means they’re gay”— isn’t that JUST enforcing and enabling homophobia? Isn’t it saying that if that person identified as a man that the gay panic is justified? Isn’t that also inferring that it’s justified for men to kill/ assault their partners if they feel they were lied to/ their pride is on the line?

Why are we not simply condemning the men attacking and assaulting trans women in the first place? Why are we not telling men that it’s okay and acceptable to be attracted and/ or hit on by a man/ someone who used to be a man? That it’s not okay to shame and ridicule a friend who’s in a relationship with a man or trans woman? Why are we not pushing the message that it is NEVER justified to assault or kill someone to protect your own shallow pride?

Gay men are attacked by men who are afraid the victim might be attracted to them/ they might be attracted to the victim. Women are assaulted and murdered because men feel the need to “put them in their place,” because they’re afraid of what their friends will think.

The root of the problem is male violence, not misgendering.
