I did NOT say "there are exactly 2 roles in reproduction." That was another poster.

I said "lots of people cannot play either role in reproduction (production of mature eggs, or production of sperm) for all or parts of our lives." And we're all still male or female. Coz sex is a category, defined by potential capacity to produce one kind of gamete or another at certain times in one's life.

All humans are unable to reproduce for a significant part of our lives - prior to puberty for both sexes, during most of the menstrual cycle as well as after menopause for females. Some people of both sexes for one reason or another will always be unable to reproduce. These facts do not nullify sex as a category. Nor do they mean that pre-pubescent children, post-menopausal women, or people with lifelong or temporary infertility due to medical conditions cannot be classified as either female or male.

Also, you seem to think that people only are male or female the moment they are producing sperm or ova. That's not how this works.

Women can't produce eggs when we are pregnant or in labor, and often for the length of time we breastfeed as well. This doesn't mean pregnant, laboring and breastfeeding women somehow aren't female, LOL.

Similarly, just coz most grandmothers can't reproduce any more doesn't mean they are no longer female and never reproduced. The fact that your mom might have gone through menopause doesn't mean she is no longer of the female sex, or that she didn't give birth to you.

Again, sex classification denotes whether one is of two categories: beings with the potential capacity to produce sperm or egg at some point in time. An individual's potential capacity for producing sperm or egg doesn't have to be realized for sex classification to occur or for the two sex categories to hold up.

The way you would attempt to treat them would depend what sex they were. It would be futile to try to induce ovulation in an infertile male. Feel free to try though.
