I remember reading an article (I can't find it! if anyone knows which one it is please comment) about a transwoman who had transitioned and was now campaigning for better access to healthcare because they and their friends had had some complications with the treatment but had no recourse legally because the treatment was so new and experimental. So they were pushing for people to be much more cautious with medical treatment but also to do more studies that weren't biased or were not funded by the companies that profit from trans healthcare. They emphasized the point that because the area was so political, little research that was balanced and critical had been done.

I think it's appalling that someone should be able to go through the medical system like this with little knowledge of the risks and that the area is so experimental and little recourse and accountability for the surgeons and doctors who do a bad job. I think it's awful too how an area of medical science has become so political and heated that proper research cannot be done and that as a result people are received botched medical treatment.
