The title eerily echoes the "Born Schizophrenic" TV special about the girl whose Munchausen mother and unstable abusive father paraded around Oprah and Dr. Phil as being schizophrenic almost since birth, when actually she was mildly autistic but that wasn't special enough for the parents, who wanted her to be a crazy genius and show the world how they had the most mentally ill kids ever and got her put on heavy doses of Clozaril and other medications. People who questioned the story or criticized the parents based on their own words and the videos of the kids were decried as not being empathetic to the plight of parents raising children with mental illnesses, mean, ignorant, accused of thinking they knew better than the kid's own doctors.

Ten years later, the kids got taken away and as it turned out, after the father skipped out, the mother really ramped up the drugging and created a really sketchy situation moving in this guy she hardly knew and the kids got taken away mainly for the drugging, and after months in foster care the kids were weaned off their medications and showed no signs of mental illness besides autism. The kiwifarms thread has a lot more information. Suddenly those people who were critical and sounding the alarm in 2009 don't seem so mean.

Unfortunately, many of these kids who've been encouraged or indoctrinated into thinking they're trans will have a similar path, even though many of the parents are well-meaning and not motivated by Munchausens but instead by the influence of a sick culture that fails to accept nonconforming children.

Giving your child unnecessary medical treatment because you want a “special” kid for attention is child abuse.
