I realize my tone in the first comment was kind of snarky, but that snark is reserved for the type of person in general that is finding more and more niche battles to fight, especially in the realm of language. Overall, I have a view that it's good to respect all people and assume most people mean well. Hell, even the person who wrote this article probably meant well, but I still find it hilariously out-of-touch.

I don't think you're snarky. I think you're thoughtful. I was being glib with my blanket "male nonsense" statement. I should have been specific and said, "Stuff men do deliberately to push women's boundaries and erode rights in bad faith." I think we're on about the same page, but you are being more eloquent than I was. :)

I definitely came to awareness of these issues late (fairly recently) because I haven't directly been affected by them. I saw everyone shouting at J.K. Rowling and saying she was "canceled" and thought "that seems odd." I researched the things she was talking about, and here I am. I'm still learning from all of you but my tendency will always be to assume good intentions while looking out for harmful actions.
