It's a social networking app that uses facial recognition to weed men out during the automated account set up.

So, here's my recollection of what went down. Anyone else can chime in:

Sall tried to debut it to r/gendercritical.

She received a lot of feedback that the app was: a) not women-only because she was letting trans women in on purpose, b) the term "girl" was viewed as degrading or condescending by a lot of adult women, c) the word "Giggle" was offputting to women who fight to be taken seriously and d) so, so pink, which is reminiscent of gender stereotypes and the pink tax. Also e) facial recognition is creepy.

She told us TWAW and blew off our feedback.

Then she came back months later and basically said we'd been right and trans activists were bombarding her with threats.

...and now this. Make of it what you will.

I never understood why she tried to debut it with GC while claiming it was inclusive and TWAW. Talk about not reading the room.

When she came back, she definitely had attitude with the women who were trying to hold her accountable for her first foray into the sub, after deleting all her posts from back then, as well. She's a capitalist, trying to make money. She wasn't ever trying to stand for women or help us.

Yeah it's such a bizarre mix of poor decision making (why would she not roundtable her ideas first? how did the app get that far into development with flaws that are hugely offputting to its target customers?) and poor people skills.

She's a capitalist, trying to make money. She wasn't ever trying to stand for women or help us.

Absolutely agree. She thought we were dumb 'giggling girls' who'd buy anything pink.

From what I can tell, it's a startup. Lots of startups have problems like these. I havent downloaded it yet but I'm also giving her the benefit of the doubt when it comes to intentions. She seems like someone who is more tenacious than diplomatic, and it's not unusual for people like that to sometimes have gaffes. I'm not about to trash talk some woman who's building a company from the ground up that I wont support her because when she first started out, she didn't have a PR person and she came off as not nice enough.
