On a map, look at the west coast of sub Saharan Africa. You will notice it is very smooth and has few natural harbours. That impedes communication and commerce. Now look at river systems and especially waterfalls. Rivers rarely connect and waterfalls harm river navigation. Then observe that sub Saharan Africa is surrounded by the Sahara Desert and two oceans: once again, it is isolated.

In sum, Africa is and has been a ghetto continent. It’s undeveloped and filled with savages, just like ghettos here.
