Not trying to brag but I'm doing pretty good. Me and the Mrs. both have professional jobs and we have no kids. House paid for and zero debt. So we got the disposable income and high gas prices are more a nuisance.

For prospective, we both came from poorer (but not dirt poor) homes. So budgeting and value of money were both important to us.

However, I remember being young and the stress on my parents living on a tight budget. When me and my wife married things we very tight for years until we paid all our debts off. I'm very aware of the major impact this is having on a majority of households.

That is a blessing to be free from debt! Even the Bible tells us to be in debt to no one, so you are doing something right there in God's eyes.

Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

I believe in necessity debt. Having a mortgage is a reality of today. Having $20k on a credit card with nothing to show for it...preach on because you are totally correct!

I did the mortgage thing, too, but then was blessed financially so that I could pay it off.

In an ideal society, children could live with their parents while working and saving up so they could buy or build their own home, avoiding all debt.

But our society is corrupt, and many parents themselves are in debt, buying more than they can afford, not content with what they already have.

I also did the college loan thing, and now I see that is another way I was sucked into the slavery of financial debt. But I thank God that today I am free from all debt and I will never go into debt again.
