For one thing this is a lot slower then 'Blitzkreig' which instantly knocked out communications and for a long time nobody knew just what the hell happened on September 1st 1939 which lead to immediate speculation and rumors but no concrete info until weeks later. This time around there is lots of info and day by day events. This is a slow burner where just now they announced that Ukraine is dismantling road signs to 'confuse' Russia troopers not exactly sure how THAT'S going to work out but similar tactics happened in WW2. One of the immediate changes was censoring of the weather by 1940 half the world's weather stations were 'offline' leading weather man to 'speculate' what was going on. Jan 1940 was cold world wide in the northern hemisphere some blame the bombing cooled the air off briefly:
Both have far reaching economic effects where there were embargoes instituted almost immediately against both enemies and that lead to supply chain shortages in the following years long before the US even thought of entering.
This sparked the US to voluntary send (some) troops whom were eager to kick Nazi butts and Texas has a volunter guard going over to help the Ukraine already so I see a faster response is being received at a civilian level where there were lots of debates between 1939-1940 in the university campus scene. If you were a scholar or professor in that time frame it would've been a VERY interesting era as the political boundaries were constantly changing making world geography books VERY MUCH outdated a month or two later.
I'd actually love to see a copy of a 1939 world atlas vs 1941 during the height of the Second European War.
