I have been wanting to move anyway for other reasons, but blue states are way less attractive destinations right now.

I'm not sure if this is a positive development. Perhaps we should be making some effort to retake blue areas rather than forever fleeing. There's no point in anyone throwing their lives away or harming themselves or their family, but at some point we're going to run out of places to run to. It's probably about time to reverse "white flight".

Unfortunately this isn't realistically possible. Did you know the state with the third-most Republican votes in 2016 was California? Almost 4 million Californians voted Republican in 2016. Sadly, they were outnumbered by almost 8 million Democrats.

Entire Republican states would need to depopulate just to have a chance at winning California. But if all Republicans moved away from California and New York - states they have zero chance of winning - they could absolutely dominate every swing state and guarantee victory in every election.
