It does feel awkward that people become happy and hug you when you're aware it was chosen arbitrarily. That kind of ruined it for me. I think I'm staying home next year.

I haven't celebrated in years. I'll go to a random party at a friend's place every now and then and that's good enough for me.

It's not an arbitrary date.

It's the ancient date of the winter solstice, which slowly moves forward in the year due to the progression of the equinoxes.

I'd like to attend a pagan celtic celebration of the summer solstice with an attending druid once in my life. As long as there isn't a sacrifice. Maybe a goat would be OK.
