Hippies have always been into crazy shit like auras, crystals, Gaia worship etc, what's he talking about?

This journalist is obviously either a simpleton or never left the house before 2005.

More to the point, hippies have always distrusted "the man", be that in the form of big government or big business. I thought it was quite an interesting inversion that this kind of skepticism suddenly became a right-wing trait during Covid.
