Because you are Americans and your news is mostly crime and weather.
In other countries they go on about other genocides, a lot.
Even in the US there is constant talk about slavery and the genocide against the Natives.
It just depends where you live what people are hung up about.
There was a good piece the other day about how Zelensky was saying things which were offensive to American Jews because in the Ukraine they have a completely different perspective on the holocaust and it's not really talked about that much.
