What are you trying to say here?

[–]Site_rly_sux 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

What is op trying to say with this title? He's found an environmental campaigner and author (and very regular grauniad commentor) saying that farmed animals place stresses on the land that aren't present in a forest. And OP has turned that into, 'this whacko took his mask off!'

I think OP is dumb, posting a dumb take on this....grist for the grauniad mill. If you can agree with me that op's headline is basically content-less, context-less and just moronic fluff, then I'll agree that my comment was just fluff too

That you will be an underclass who will subsist on poisonous (chitin) insects and grass, as their "Elysium" floats above your cesspit world that they rule over.

How did this comment become disconnected from the parent comment

It didn't, I was referencing the post itself.

There's no need to go into any technical blither in order to rebuke claims like this. All one needs to do is point out what they are NOT saying -- i.e., CHINA.

Mask off!

George Monbiot has been pretending to be one of those environmentalists who prefers factory farms to the forest. But you've exposed him, OP!

Now we can all see - he actually prefers forests to factory farms! Good work

Oh and look - it's an excerpt from his book "Feeding the world". Now he wants to feed the world too! Great expose op!

[–]jet199Instigatrix 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Nothing to do with factory farms.

He's against pasture farming.

Particularly organic pasture farming.

[–]Site_rly_sux 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly! Mask off!

[–]jagworms 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Organic farms do have a lower yield, due to not using as much poison on bugs and weeds, but that does not make them "the worst".

[–]iamonlyoneman[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Ah, but if you would rather see high-rise hydroponic monoculture and lab-grown meat, using less intensive farming and ranching methods are bad. That means having free range sheep is bad Q.E.D. And if you consider people who are against your flavor of "progress" as being bad, that means we are bad for protesting this nonsense.

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

It makes them less land efficient. Which means that you have to take more wilderness to feed the earth.

[–]jet199Instigatrix 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Many plants and especially wild flowers have adapted for grazed pastures and would be lost if that land was given over to wilderness. Humans are part of the natural landscape and metropolitan environmentalists need to remember that if they really want biodiversity.

Grazed pastures are not an at-risk ecosystem.
