It can be as simple about perspective. When I concentrate on the bad, I don't see the good. When I'm focused on the present problems, it's hard for me to see the payoff.

Remember that goals have 4 parts: 1. Have a specific outcome in mind. 2. Have some way to measure your progress or final plan. 3. Has to be realistic. 4. Has to have a time limit or time-frame in which to accomplish the goal.

If you don't have this plan, then your goals are only a wish and you are leaving your future and happiness to other people. Take control, even if it seems too hard. Change your goals if your are stuck in a cycle from which you can't break free.

Has to be realistic.

This is the problem. A happy life isn't realistic in my case.

Happiness is overrated.

How though? Why live if it's a net negative?

I dunno, why not? Do you have something better to do?

Look, many of us have been so unhappy we've wanted to suicide to stop the suffering. Those of us replying to you obviously didn't. Things change. Even if you don't believe you'll feel differently someday, you will. And of course it feels impossible while you're still feeling like this. That's just how it works.
