As an economist, I can guarantee you that taxation serves one purpose, and one purpose only: to keep the people down.

So how do you explain countries where there are really low taxes (tax havens)?

I smell a shill.

Maybe not.. just saw that you are Czechian.

In America, we pay high taxes with 0 return on our investment, which is what has resulted on our massive distrust in the government. For example, our largest tax expense is the military, which has to be given our government's massive overreach into foreign affairs for the gain of a very few people. The majority of American people see absolutely no benefit from these policies, and in most cases, they actually hurt the average American.

I could go on and on regarding what causes distrust of the government in the countries that are heavily affected by globalism, but that is what leads to the belief in "conspiracy theories".

It's unrealistic to think of taxes as investment, it's simply an expenditure for the citizen that keeps the government running.

But here the money is ineffectively used as well, gets pocketed by people in power, the state supports useless NGOs and so on. You are not alone.

Well yeah, your country is a major world player, so military, secret services and the like will be a big receiver of taxpayer money. You also helped us win WW2 for example, so maybe it's not all for nothing.

Maybe if you live in a country whose government does actually has a say in what might happen in the world, you could start seeing some things a bit differently. My country is small, we were occupied a number of times by foreign powers in the past so I don't really see many opportunities for government conspiracies, at least when it comes to our local one. Could be why I'm wary of conspiracy theories and excessive pattern seeking in general. Here lots of things can be simply explained by incompetence and greed.

The entire capitalist structure by itself is corrupt. One of the best proofs of it is the COVID crisis. Despite the fact that there's thousands of intellectuals speaking against it, the media doesn't pay attention to it at all. This is because nearly all intelligence agencies or at least the most powerful ones are corrupt, all the more after the cold war.

So what would you have your country do if you were in power and it were up to you?
