What kind of data would they be looking for that got the Olympics cancelled for an entire year? Whether or not the virus was deadly?

Several countries (who were not ran by staunch right wing idiots like Trump or Bolsonaro), already knew that and immediately declared a public health emergency was now in effect.

Japan also got this right in the beginning as well. Shinzo Abe or whoever was Prime Minister of Japan last year, was not going to host the Olympics at a time when maybe half the world was still marching in the streets against masks, and doing all other sorts of stupid shit before governments got their act together and enabled restrictions.

One year later, Japan was almost on the right path towards opening up and even hosting a safe olympics but 'shocker', the current Prime Minister is another Conservative fool who dismissed concerns that Japan was still not fully prepared to host the games safely and that more effort should have went towards supporting the local health industry first.

But since the country already pissed away Billions of dollars in a botched effort to try and save face, the Olympic games were scheduled to go ahead anyway. But the problems with doing this are so apparent. Several athletes are already confirmed sick, while they're still expected to compete in physical sports. It wont surprise me if we hear more confirmed cases over the next two weeks, especially when Tokyo itself has also seen cases skyrocket in the past couple of days.

There was already data. Images from late 2019 showed China was having trouble containing this new disease. The Chinese government was desperate to roll out field hospitals and tell Wuhan residents to avoid leaving the province to stop the spread.

Japan hosting the Olympics last year would have been a move of dumbass proportions, since they would have let in thousands of foreign athletes and spectators from around the world, most of whom would have walked straight past the airport gates and infect the native Japanese population without a single care in the world.

Foreign reporters were already inside the country when it happened and they reported the exact same thing.

Like I said, this is insane denial. Are you going to say China doesn't exist now? We can't prove a hunk of land mass exists?

China's data is not unreliable because foreigners came back with the exact same evidence that Wuhan had been put under lockdown and makeshift hospitals had appeared around the country. You are literally decrying none of this happened when it's all on tape.

What the hell is unreliable about the data?

You can watch the videos and count the makeshift hospitals for yourselves. The fact is, the Chinese government was aware of an outbreak was already on their soil and they took actions to stop it. You don't need much more data other than the fact it was enough to cause an entire province to shut down.

That was the only lesson the entire world only needed to see before it hit their own borders. If China was shutting down cities, you would do the same in your own nation. Don't wait like dumbass Trump did. They should have responded the first day it was detected.
