There have been times where Western Authorities have violated their land even up into recent times (a big one happened in Canada in the 1990s, where a golf course was being pushed next to their territory) so if they were legitimately being cheated out of independence then it's fair to want to change that.

There's also many Native groups and it might have been unfair to group them all together not knowing what their individual situation is like. It would be like looking at Europe and trying to compare the various occupations of Ireland, Ukraine, Gibraltar etc. Just because they're the same people genetically, might not mean the circumstances are still equal...

I'm not a hateful person, so I genuinely want the Native Americans to feel free if there was something getting in the way of that. But if there was not a single attempt on their end to separate then of course, I would find that news disappointing.

If it was made universal I think the cost of living would rise so much that it stops helping.

In my ideal world, cost of living would be matched to the current needs of replacing babies.

The trouble is that most people want to feel financially secure and have decent housing before they bring children into the world so only paying them a decent wage only after the kids are born isn't going to get that many more people settling down. I'll use an example: a 21 year old who just finished university and has a job lined up. There could also be another incentive for the wife. In exchange for giving up the career world, lets pretend she's paid $100,000 a year just to be a stay at home mother? And of course, every child she gives birth to raises her yearly salary? If she births 4 babies, her "mother salary" is now $200,000.

So now the choice becomes obvious. Would most people still choose to remain single, and slave away at their jobs while having almost no money left to put towards their savings? Or do they take the government sponsored marriage system, and start owning luxuries much sooner rather than waiting decades for it?
