Will carriers support this phone? I cant see the big phone cos like apple and Samsung not using their market domanence to demand that their retailers and retail partners not support this idea. I’m surprised the same companies mentioned above haven’t sent out hit squads to deep six the devs of this idea.

You can check the if it is compatible with carriers. This older article has a bit more info on how to do that
There are other similar phones (Libfrem, Fairphone), and have been in the past (e.g Mozilla). Big phone companies don't seem to care so far, the market is huge, and smaller phone manufacturers are hardly putting a dent in it.
