Do some further research before spreading misinformation. This has been fixed & merged into master: https://github.com/duckduckgo/Android/pull/878

This was still sketchy af and DuckDuckGo is also sketchy in the search results it produces. StartPage is slightly better

I could be remembering this wrong but I thought last year startpage sold itself to a shady company.

Quite possible. I mean, they need to make money to keep their servers running. The only private search engine is one you build yourself by scraping the net. Outside of that, privacy is a pipe dream with search engines
