I would think there are other species that have entered the lineage. As this story says, it could be hybrids that are already part of human ancestry. I read somewhere that humans who left Africa were possibly forced into a small pocket and population, perhaps in the hundreds, in the Middle East tens of thousands of years ago, maybe because Neanderthals hunted them to near extinction.

Things probably would've turned out better if humans did go extinct. Nature itself is evil but nothing else even comes close to humans.

I envisioned early man fleeing Africa only to fuck everything they could on the trip. A prehistoric bestial traveling orgy. And this is scientists today finally going omg they fucked that thing!?

I gotta say the interstellar army sounds a lot more impressive.

It could be the other way around. Early man, or woman, could have been fucked by every other hominid along the journey.
