Wow. I'm not usually speechless.

McConnell isn't saying "I'm not going to vote on this because it's a bad bill." He's saying "I'm not going to let Biden address immigration. This is for Trump to handle."

So what the fuck does it matter what the bill says?

Where did McConnell say that? It doesn't say that in your huff post link. It does say you should read the bill tho, which I agree on.

"My" huff post link? I don't read HuffPo and I certainly wouldn't link it.

Here you go:

"When we started this, the border united us and Ukraine divided us. The politics on this have changed. [Trump is] the nominee... and we don’t want to do anything to undermine him." - Mitch McConnell

Not sure I trust that site and the tweet from jack Sherman who heard it in a closed door session supposedly. I suspect you haven't read that site either, just googled something. And why is it up to mitch anyway, the minority leader of the senate?

I don't read Mediaite, but I do read Electoral-Vote.com, which is where I found the link.

Mitch has 49 seats, it takes 41 votes to filibuster, and he's managed to maintain discipline among Senate Republicans, so he has the power to say "no" to anything he doesn't want passed.

Ahhh the filibuster which isn't mentioned in constitution and which they ignore for important things like Supreme Court justice approvals.

So I guess mitch should not only vote himself for this bill but he should pressure other repubs to support it?

Let's go back to reading the bill. It doesn't actually stop immigration, that is why it shouldn't be supported.

Sure, the filibuster is Rule XXII of the Standing Rules of the United States Senate, not a Consitutional obligation, but it's still a Rule that the Senate has bound itself to abide by. Right now, the reality is that if Mitch says no, the answer is no.

So I guess mitch should not only vote himself for this bill but he should pressure other repubs to support it? Let's go back to reading the bill. It doesn't actually stop immigration, that is why it shouldn't be supported.

My point is that Mitch, and clearly other Republicans, aren't even considering these kinds of questions. They consider them irrelevant. To them it's not even about whether the bill is likely to help or not - it's about "the politics" and "not wanting to do anything to undermine Trump, the nominee."

Only have to follow constitution

You should focus on Johnson, he is house speaker and bills originate in house. Will it matter if senator mitch supports it if it doesn't pass the house? Johnson did help biden with a spending bill to keep the govt from shutting down, he'll be voted out for it, nice guy.

Also tho politics do matter and defeating biden is important. You should not vote for a bad bill to help him. There's already laws in place to enforce for immigration, and trumps executive actions on it could be used. Like remain in mexico.

Dude, that's ridiculous. 99.99% of our rules and laws are not in the Constitution. Like, there's nothing in the Constitution that says you can't just pull out another Senator's teeth with rusty pliers until he agrees to vote the way you want.

Also tho politics do matter and defeating biden is important. You should not vote for a bad bill to help him. There's already laws in place to enforce for immigration, and trumps executive actions on it could be used. Like remain in mexico.

The truth is, the politics are all that matter. The Republicans don't actually want to stop illegal immigration. They know full well that American agriculture would totally collapse if they did that. That we'd face the worst labor shortage in our country's history. Our economy is reliant on illegal, sub-minimum-wage labor. And they know that full well, but they're committed to just saying whatever you need to hear to make you vote for them.
