Joe Biden's executive order{cite-1} is starting to move {cite-2} in the Forestry Department, Bureau of Land Management, and Department of Agriculture.
It aims to protect and grow, specifically, the country's old-growth forests; diverse ecosystems of trees living for many decades, 100+ years even.
It justifies this as a carbon capture need and focuses heavily on including indigenous people and their generational knowledge...or something.
Trump began this task after California's terrible and avoidable string of wild-fires, issuing rules fostering the return of stewardship of our national forests, by bringing back protective efforts such as thinning (ie bulldozer "raking"), prescribed burns, and beneficial commercial logging. This initiative was supported and defended by the Biden Administration...until Biden finished up his attempt to replace that effort with his own and allowed the federal courts deem it unconstitutional (based mostly on feelings and ignoring 100's of years of forestry conservation wisdom). {cite-3}
The benefits of logging have long been known to be greater than just environmental protection and sustainability of the national forest, but also to the public, who can benefit from this renewable resource for the national security given by self-sustainability, as well as reduced dependence on hormone disrupting planet killing plastic, which is made from oil, and slowly killing the human race.{cite-4}
Neither Biden's new executive order, nor the recently announced planning {cite-5} by land management and forestry departments, ban logging, prescribed fires, or forest management. Although Biden mentions tackling foreign illegal logging and importing of products that it supports.
While Eco-terrorists have been pushing for the complete banning of logging for some time, so far Biden and the forestry departments have not faltered, despite decades of their misguided and manipulated efforts, being the leading causing the wild-fires, the biggest cause of US old-growth forest loss today. Logging's impact is minuscule and would be mostly beneficial, if Eco-lobbyists hadn't all but killed the entire industry and their infrastructure. {cite-4}
Biden's executive order mostly mandates the assessment of existing old-growth forests and recommendations for protecting them. It seems likely that the massive Build Back Better loan contains a ton of money for this, which is sitting around evaluating, waiting for a plan to use it.
The political charade would love to declare that Biden banned logging. It would be a terrible thing that hurt our country and our forests, but the low info voters eat up virtue signalling, but cannot understand complex situations. The Guardian has already declared deceptively that Biden has banned logging old-growth forests...{cite-6} Of course, old-growth forests were always protected and Biden has not banned any kind of logging.
You have to remember, before colonists came to America, the indigenous people who covered most of America, but mysteriously dissipated (likely slaughtered), maintained the forests for nearly a thousand years. To stop, would not be a benefit to the forests.
Same shit, different day. Evil people convince the foolish to demand their own demise. Will Biden pander to it or stick to rational positions? We will have to wait and see.
