The problem is the Speaker of the House has too much power. He should not be allowed to control what bills get voted on. Any bills that have a reasonable chance of passing should be submitted to the House for approval. This would usually mean bipartisan bills. In this case, the Senate bipartisan bill would have to be submitted to the House for voting.

When no funding legislation is enacted, federal agencies must stop all nonessential work

Good. Our government should only be doing essential work (and spending OUR money to do so) in the first place.

We shouldn't be forced to fund non-essential work in order to fund the essential stuff either.

It's time to reign in our government and begin a return to what it was intended to be by the founders. It wasn't meant to be our surrogate parent. It wasn't meant to be our bank, loan officer, health care manager, etc. What was it meant to be and do? That can be found in a handy document called "The Constitution."

Yes, but the entire House should be involved. In this case, McCarthy is unwilling to deal with Democrats are put the Senate bipartisan bill up for a vote. In a Democracy, one person should not have that much power.
