The USA is a Republic, not a Democracy. We elect people to represent us, not listen to us.

Republic and Democracy are not mutually exclusive. The USA is a democratic republic. A republic is characterized by having representatives instead of Kings, these representatives have historically not always been 'democratically' elected in the history of Republics, i.e. voted on by the citizenry in a real or fake election
