Exactly what I have been thinking! It took me weeks to realise that the shutdown was even happening.
The government shut down Dec. 21 over Senator Chuck Schumer and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi petulantly not wanting Trump to have any border wall funding.
Actually, according to Trump, it is Trump who has "shut down the government for border security". Quote taken from Wikipedia with verified source at https://www.politico.com/story/2018/12/11/trump-border-wall-congress-budget-1055433. I don't know why people on both sides keep insisting that Trump is not taking responsibility for this.
