The bill would have legalized spying by the government, political and other non-profit shell companies and made spying worse, not better....just not for any of the reasons Pelosi said; She just wanted all the authoritarians and backdoor-ed state laws that already exist, to not be superseded.

The bill was a mine field of back-doors, from not covering "de-identified data" or "publicly available data", as if those things can't be combined....to not covering entities who collect data for a non-profit, government entities or those collecting data for the government.

In short, the bill defines some protections, then makes so many exceptions it doesn't cover anything any more and makes data collection even more allowable. It tries to still allow spying for advertisements in most cases, if you are doing so for the purpose diversifying customers/employees, the data is being collected by an individual or a small company (like a network of small shell-companies)....etc etc
