The medical community is the one that continues to shock me. How any group of people trained in a field with thousands of years of background in objective observation can swing so quickly to accepting a purely subjective construct I simply cannot figure. If we cannot trust our objective observation of male/female, then there is no medicine, because every other objective observation becomes equally invalid. They might as well close shop. Yet I've talked with physicians I know personally who buy into this crap. I seriously don't understand it.

We have a massively overly optimistic view of the abilities of medical field. It's not an accident. Shows like M*A*S*H (which was used to bring the unsavory niche field of psychology to prominence) and ER, Chicago Hope, House, etc. Those were propaganda tools to elevate the field within the general public's estimation. They never were as good as people were led to believe.

These days though, I don't know if you noticed, the pharmaceutical industry has pretty already discovered all the obvious effective medications. The new drugs don't work better, have more side effects, and they're prescribed because they're more profitable. And doctors have been going along with that anyways for the last 50 years or so.

I have been scrambling to get heart medications, every month. Every month it is a struggle. It shouldn't be this hard, but they can't even do simple things right. It's just really obvious now.

I see what you see. Medicine - like most areas of western civilization - has become simply another industrial machine, with this process accelerating dramatically in the past 30 years. The doctors are now just cogs in that machine, and you are right: this would be more visible except for the PR campaign that has been waged presenting doctors as exceptional, higher mythical beings.

There are still great doctors out there. Isn't it a perfect illustration of the spiritual mess our civilization is in, however, that the best doctors are now the ones specifically targeted for elimination by the machine of the medical industrial complex. It makes perfect sense, but damn if it's not depressing to watch.
