I have a cousin who is a quarter Ashkenazi. She doesn't look Jewish or middle eastern, she looks Polish. I literally worked with a Polish girl who could have been her twin. A lot of mixing and inter-breeding happened in the East and people often decided their ethnicity on the basis of the religion they followed rather than their heritage. There's a reason Yiddish is nothing like Hebrew. The Ashkenazi even have their own genes which aren't like either other Jews or Europeans. That's where the cystic fibrosis mutation comes from.

The presence of Jews in “Europe“ is because of a diaspora, just like the presence of Black people outside of Africa.

What's the cause of their presence in my family then?

Did they just immigrate in?

Melanin deficiency disorder is a disease, not a demographic.
