Well, I don't think the student loan forgiveness is a very good bill. It literally does nothing to address the systemic issues that cause all this debt to be accrued in the first place, nor will it prevent the next group of students from accruing massive debts, just unfairly favor this group over others that have and will have to pay them back. It is literally trying to buy votes with an extremely irresponsible policy

Furthermore, these loans are actually a privilege. As not a current student, nobody is give me a loan for a few hundred K with rate lower than your average home loan, especially if I had zero income whatsoever. The people with hundreds of thousands in loans are ones that:

a. Made poor decisions to attend pay out of state or private tuition to get a liberal arts degree that wont allow them pay off a quarter million in loans

b. Doctors, lawyers and other highly paid professionals that will have no trouble paying back these loans

I went to an excellent community college, it cost me $39 a credit, and I got more personal instruction than I ever did at my more expensive state university.

The united states has a huuuuge lack of community colleges, trade schools, apprenticeships and options for people that are not 4 year universities. The US, including the Dems have perpetrated this system of loans, overpriced school, worthless degrees, and convincing everyone they need a college degree or they will end up destitute.

The current economic situation has been caused by "neo-liberalism" which both the DNC and GOP are practitioners of. You realize all the big banks were bailed out by the Obama industry and donate to to democratic politicians more than republicans right?

    I don't disagree with the sentiment that Republicans have been worse on these issues, as they won't even make show of giving us any table scraps.

    But the fact is that representative democracy has been coopted by billionaires and corporations (again no thanks to the republicans who passed Citizens United which certainly made this worse). The big banks, big pharma, and the insurance companies that have been robbing us blind have largely been donating to and been enabled by left wing politicians. Like Obama and the bank bailouts, or Kamala and Warren's rapid flip-flop on and the refusal of almost all Democrats to support a single-payer health care system, even in the face of Covid when people were losing their jobs and we have healthcare tied to jobs, and there is an obviously a public health interest in everyone being, well, healthy

    Yes, I'll grant you that the Democrats ARE our only hope of ever getting these things done as Republicans wont even pretend to support these things. And I think this is why its honestly more important to hold the democrats to these standards - because we know the republicans won't ever do it. It has to be the left, and they have to be the ones to be forced by the voters to make this kind of corruption unelectable. We need to follow the model set by the Scandinavian countries which have at least managed to provide a social safety net and basic services to their people while maintaining a capitalist economy

    Its like if Superman and Lex Luthor both tortured and muredered someone, and then Superman arrested Lex for murder. Id be more upset with Superman, because wtf hes supposed to be the good guy. The democrats are superman, we are supposed to be the good guys, and I dont want to see us acting like lex luthor. I'm not gonna change Lex luthor, but if Superman turns evil too, then we are all fucked

    Anyways, also just wanted to say I appreciate the debates we have. I don't want you to think I'm like the others here who resort to childish ad hominems when people don't agree with them. I also wanted to concede a point to you from a while back. I had written a response as such and then soundsituation hit me with an IP ban when I was sending it. You were indeed correct about that white phosphorous article I had posted being an unfair portrayal, after looking at the some of the material you linked and some other sources, there was indeed reasonable context for the policies around it.
