Well that's just not quite true... Around half of US households have a firearm - so while over half of the adults in the country may not technically personally own a gun, they de-facto share ownership of a gun by way of being married to/in a committed relationship with someone who does, and being ok with it. Then you have to subtract all the people who are legally ineligible to own a firearm because of criminal past or ajudicated mental health issues, so, that definitely ends up being over half of US households. Nevermind the fact that the data he's drawing from is based on polling, and many gun owners will not tell a pollster they have guns when asked if/how many they own, because that's none of their business, so the number who own guns is likely much higher than the polling would suggest.

So, yeah, he's full of shit - we are, in fact, a nation of gun owners... That is why half of the states have passed constitutional carry, and don't have stupid gun laws like CA and NY do.
