and if it wasn't for the Nile randomly shrinking, repeatedly, they would have lasted a lot longer. Their legal system and writing was quite sophisticated compared to their surrounding neighbors. But food is food. No food. No Empire. Their location (you know, surrounded by desert) also slowed their expansion. Hard to conquer your neighbors if your army dies of heatstroke before they get there. It wasn't so much "Doomed to fail" as much as it was an extremely bad case of luck compounded over several decades.

Also, for religious people of the Abrahamic faiths: If you get bored check out how many things the holy books get wrong about Egypt. Once you compare it to known history large parts of it start to read like bad fan-fiction. lol.
