There was a whole Vox article about how this was essential a "numerical typo" and they fixed it.

But they never explained how such a typo was made.

Nor did they explain how afterwards Biden was still winning

I've seen it said they accidentally added an extra zero when they input the numbers, which is quite a common error.

Forever the corrected version seemed to just smooth out the rise rather than reduced the overall numbers of votes by 100k.
