I'd advocate for a higher national tax, not a state tax. But, for the reason you mentioned, the taxes on imports also have to be high to prevent companies from just moving to foreign tax havens.

The nice thing about state taxes is it does help fuck people who live in states who are off the wagon when it comes to spending. If you tax higher on a federal level is kinda just throws all the power to the left who can just advocate for nation wide policies. An example is single-payer healthcaer.

I don't really understand all the effects of tax policies. I don't think even policy makers do either.

Nation-wide policies sound good to me, but I am a communist.

Why don't you move to China and give communism a test run before you advocate for it? I guarantee you'll change your mind, but you'll never be able to tell anybody about it, or return. Because it is a communist state.

I am there right now. Why don't you come over here and give it a try? You'd probably never move back. Americans are taught their entire life that the word "communism" is a bad word.
