There is now an official state religion in the US.

Note the similarities to the other kind:

  1. Revealed 'truth'. (Listen and Believe!)
  2. A Catechism (the "Narrative").
  3. Chosen People ('Protected Classes').
  4. Original Sin which cannot be expunged without 'repentance' ('privilege')
  5. 'Heretics' aren't just wrong, they're evil or even non-human, and there are no limits on what can be done to oppose them. ("No bad tactics!")

I submit that this is just another prole-control mechanism in the classic pattern. It's no less top-down authoritarian than the medieval Church.
