Yes, whether you're doing it consciously or not. The correct behavior-set will vary, depending on personalities involved, the context, and the totality of the circumstances.

Like other skills, exhibiting the correct behaviors can be learned. Ideally that knowledge would then be incorporated into ones personality at an unconscious level, rather than being used mechanically to prey on targets.

There's a bit more complexity to it than that, but sure, pretty much. It does tend to be a more enjoyable role when the meta perspective is minimized.

As for the mate, things tend to work out better when they trade in the paper clip necklace for a bundle of angiosperm genitals.
