This is bad.

We are now moving from older children not being allowed out on their own and being locked inside 24/7 to teens being in that situation.

Remember that only 50 years ago 6 year olds were considered old enough to walk themselves to school and back and also be out playing all day.

As children aren't going though the same rights of passage and taking on the responsibilities which they used to they are being delayed in their emotional maturity. 7 year old kids are having tantrums like toddlers and 20 year olds are acting out like teenagers.

Just looked it up, my primary school was 1.8km (~1 mile) 24 minute walk. Did that from grade 3-5 so 8 -10 years old. Jr High (grade 6 - 9) was 2.3km at around 35 min walk.

Did it every school day rain/shine or snow.

I was travelling all over the city with friends or by myself on transit by age 11-12.

Meanwhile my 11 years old nephew never rode a bus by himself in his life. He only travels by a car with mommy or daddy. :( Fucking embarrasing.
