My dog is part Great Pyrenees and very much a guard dog, I have no doubt he would take on 8 coyotes at once.

If you would ever like to share a picture of your dog, I'm sure many of us would like to see him.

This breed is such a tough dog. Do you think they are more trustworthy than Pit Bulls? I have never heard a Great Pyrenees turning against its owners, unlike Pit Bulls.

Yeah, definitely. You can tell he has an instinct to protect and defend his people/livestock. For example, when hiking on a trail with a group of people, he we will make it his job to run back and forth and check on everyone. And it really upsets him if anyone leaves and gets separated.

My dog is mixed with German Shepherd and some other things and was definitely poorly socialized as a young dog, we adopted him at two years old. He does not like strangers and unfortunately I think he probably would bite someone who didn't respect his boundaries. But I would absolutely say he's a trustworthy and loving dog.

I have heard that they usually take to one person in the family over the others and that is usually a female. Do you find this to be true?

A Great Pyrenees who almost lost his life one year ago while protecting sheep from 11 coyotes has been nominated for the People's Choice Pup in the Farm Dog of the Year competition.

I thought coyotes were solitary hunters.

Coyotes will sometimes use a female in heat to lure a yard dog into the woods and then the pack attacks and eats it.
