chess might have to do (on average) with the Y chromosome that eliminates the genetic averaging effect and thus produces more exceptions at both ends of the mental ability spectrum

yes thats likely as changes which damage are easier to diminish abilities while rising above the average is far harder - note how many people who show brilliance often have a high rate of mental instabilities - the single X inherited recessive genes (thousands and thousands being potential) include good and bad at the same time
