Where are you finding this interpretation of the Bible that suggests the earth will be melted?

This question of yours was a good one. God promises you will know the truth if you want the truth.

2 Peter, chapter 3

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

The planet earth will not be destroyed, but the surface will be burned by fire and melted. Later, the earth's crust will be populated with new creatures that do not currently exist. So it will be made "new". This is similar to how at one time there were dragons and dinosaurs, but we no longer see them, except for their fossils preserved in rock.

The great flood of water destroyed life on earth during the time of Noah. God used water to cleanse the earth of all the corruption. The earth has again turned corrupt and shall be purified by fire.
