Is that a gaffe? It's colorful language, but the comparison he was drawing, between .22LR and 9mm Luger, is a valid one.

That said, there's not a damned thing he can do about the fact that 9mm Luger is legal and ubiquitous.

He also said there is no valid reason for a 9mm, it is not a particularly large bullet, unlike .45 or .50 caliber. A shot from .22 doesnt even have the stopping power to put a decent sized man on the ground in a self-defense situation.

Yeah, nobody would feel comfortable relying on .22LR for defense. So there absolutely is a legitimate purpose for 9mm.

It also seems to have stayed more consistently available than .22LR over time, though I know finding anything at all can be a real crapshoot these days.
