US government admits they started the largest wildfire in New Mexico's history, which has damaged and destroyed hundreds of buildings and homes. The fire continues to burn and remains uncontained.

Prescribed burns are super common. Usually they become more risky when you slack off and don't do them often enough. Then you are stuck doing much much more expensive and laborious brush clearing, such as with bulldozers with a "rake" attached....or you can risk it and try the easy way, and still burn.
