Meh, Disney are a company which always chases the bottom line.

They made a financial calculation on the culture wars and got it wrong.

Used to be the youth market was the one you wanted not only because it got you future customers but because the teens were the people with throwaway cash. They would be buying tapes and cds every weekend, as well as all the merchandising, not really caring that much about the quality or deeper meaning. Now with streaming it's all paid for by the parents. Most kids now probably wont start paying for their own music or films until they are in their 30s or 40s. They only engage with a media brand through likes and comments, not money spent.

Disney just swapped billions of dollars for a handful of worthless internet points.
