I wasn't even aware there were any black people in Ireland. I'm sure she deserves it though, and this isn't some kind of meaningless token victory given to her strictly because of her skin color to make the people in charge of such things feel better about themselves and their devotion to "progress."

There's a joke that when the church was raising money for all the starving Africans in the 1980s people were really pleased to help out and give but they didn't expect the Africans to turn up in person to thank them.
