One of the actual things I've been told by an islamist woman about why Mohammed was good for women is that before he showed up they literally used to bury their female children alive for no reason so Islam is better than that.

To be fair if a nomadic tribe lived in an environment with sparse resources then keeping the population down was a good idea. If they needed extra women they would kidnap them.

I think the current politically correct view is Mohammed made it up to look better but having read this article it actually sounds a hell of a lot like what's happening in India right now.
