So have more people in your circle of acquaintance died in 2020 than in 2019? Have you noticed an uptick?

Nope, although I do know of a few other elderly folk in poor shape who passed. Perhaps others have a different view, but I have a robust social circle with various types in it, and I live in an international city. I trust my eyes, not any kind of pulpit.
