Amazon of all companies, should not be allowing, let alone promoting, tips for its workers. Tips are an excuse for Amazon to pay them less. As per the article, Amazon gets to tell them they'll make "up to $25/hr" with tips, as opposed to the $18 they actually make. Even if they successfully get people to start tipping Amazon drivers, why? Why would you sheep do that? To save Amazon money?

Tipping is a small-scale scam, and the scam works better the stupider people are. The idea is that by splitting up the cost, you trick people into thinking the cost is lower than what they actually end up paying. Smart people know to factor tipping into the total cost, but stupid people only look at the advertised cost, so they will strongly prefer $10+$2 tip over $12. As society becomes stupider, we will see tipping become "mandatory" for more and more things. Stupid people have already ruined pizza delivery by putting up with mandatory tipping in addition to exorbitant delivery fees - ordering pizza delivery just isn't worth it anymore.

I think grubhub/uber eats/delivery services ruined the pizza delivery. It used to be pizza places and maybe chinese food delivered, and the "fee" was that you tipped. But the apps normalized getting all the restaurants delivered, with a fee that they inched up over time. Before you knew it, the pizza places that didn't have fees before started adding them since they were the only food joints that didn't charge one.
