"microaggression" was invented to shore up the gap between the reality how white people conduct themselves around minorities and the narratives of judeo-leftist atrocity propaganda. Simply put, white people don't abuse minorities. White people don't aggress against minorities. So "microaggression" had to be invented to gaslight white girls into believing that they'd been abusing minorities subconsciously all along.

Had there every been any evidence that microagressions actually harm people?

I'm pretty sure irl when they look at people who feel looked down on or marginalised it rather drives them to do better and they have better outcomes than average. Immigrants tend to do better than the settled population. Women in highly sexist countries are more likely to pick high earning careers like STEM than women in more equal countries.
